Currently, we have a 108 Megapixel sensor on a smartphone but according to Yongin Park Samsung’s Head of Sensor Business Team, the company aims to develop a 600 Megapixel sensor that will deliver more detail than the human eye can see.
According to Mr. Park, the human eye has an equivalent of a 500 Megapixel camera and the goal of his team is to cross beyond that line which can be used in many applications outside of the smartphone world.
Achieving such Megapixel would require a huge sensor that won’t actually fit on a smartphone. But Mr. Park’s team will find a way to make it small by shinking the pixel size. current 108 Megapixel on Samsung’s HM1 and HMX sensors used in Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 have 0.8μm pixel size which by the way the smallest available today.
Samsung already introduced a sensor based on 0.7μm pixels and is set to shink the pixels further.
