After several months of rumors and leaks, the 2016 versions of the Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 from Samsung has become official and China is the first market to take advantage of it with the new handsets just been posted on the company’s own China website.

Design-wise,both the Galaxy J5 (2016) and the Galaxy J7 (2016) shares a common traits and when shown side by side, you couldn’t tell the difference until you realize that they come in different sizes. Taking cues from Samsung’s latest flagship the Galaxy S7 and even the mid-ranger Galaxy A’s, the Galaxy J series for 2016 also tells the same design language but we have to keep in mind that the Galaxy J series goes for the budget-conscious segment. To keep things inline with the trend of the higher-end models, the two new handsets offers a mix of metal frame and polycarbonate backplate construction.

Galaxy J7 (2016)

Though the two new handsets shares one common design, the Galaxy J7 has more power over the Galaxy J5 and it’s also bigger. The handset comes with a 5.5-inch super AMOLED display with a full-HD 1080p resolutions. Under the hood there’s a 1.6 GHz Octa-core CPU paired with 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory with microSD card support of up to 128 GB cards. One thing you’ll notice about the new spec’s sheet is that Samsung now lists the actual amount of storage memory for users in which according to the listing, it should be around 10.4 GB after the operating system and all other pre-installed apps.

To keep things upright, the Galaxy J7 comes embedded with a large 3300 mAh battery which should enable users to enjoy the handset throughout the day. With the battery on, the handset weighs around 179 grams which the device measures151.7 x 76 x 7.8mm.

Galaxy J5 (2016)

If you want a smaller handset but has the same features as the Galaxy J7, the Galaxy J5 could be your thing. The Samsung Galaxy J5 comes with a smaller yet more than enough as a daily driver display at 5.2-inch and is only configured at 720p but should do just about the same as its bigger sibling. Besides the smaller screen, the Galaxy J5 is also equipped with a modest 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU, 2 GB of RAM but with the same 16 GB storage compartment which will then spare 10.6 GB of user storage after the Operating system and Samsung’s built-in apps installed.

The handset is also given a smaller battery with 3100 mAh in capacity but should also be enough to keep things up for the day. Given the handset’s smaller footprint, it only weighs around 159 grams with a145.8 x 72.3 x 8.1mm dimensions.

Now that we have the key differences of both devices, it’s time to take a look at their shared specs:
