When it comes to updates in a Windows Phone world, Samsung is hardly catching up with Nokia which gets a lot of treatment than any Windows Phone 8 device in the market, but today, that seem to change a bit as Samsung will finally receive its first major update for its 2-year-old device the Samsung Ativ S. The Samsung Ativ S is the Korean tech company’s attempt to enter into the Window Phone 8 platform. Thought we’ve never had the chance for an update but here it is.
Just recently, users from Italy and other parts of Europe are receiving notifications from their devices for a software update which will install the latest Windows Phone 8.1 software into their device. The news is also confirmed by Samsung itself that the roll out is now happening in Italy which is available for the Ativ S units without carrier contract. Some users from Amsterdam also reported of having the update roll out, so as day goes by more countries across Europe will have the update and will eventually go worldwide.
As the 2-year-old device had been used to have Windows Phone 8, The Windows Phone 8.1 update will significantly improve the usability and performance of the Ativ S devices with new features and enhancements available in Windows Phone 8.1. Ativ S users will finally be able to enjoy the Windows Phone 8.1 features such as the new Action Center, Cortana, Using an image as a background for Live Tiles, enable third raw Tiles on the Start Screen and Live Folders, new Volume controls which separates the system volume adjustment from the volume control for media playback and applications, Swipe keyboard, Separate applications for Music and Videos, Stock application such as the Camera, Contacts, Dialer, Internet Explorer comes with enhancements and updated layout, controls, performance and better visuals.
