While Samsung may seem to have done well in the mobile market business, challenges from other companies such as Apple and even the rising mobile giants Xiaomi and Huawei from China did worry Samsung to its core which brings them to announced a new head in its mobile communications business.

JK Shin which took the role as president in its mobile communications business since 2011 will be replaced by the company’s 54-year-old Dongjin Koh which will then be responsible for future mobile devices from Samsung. Though out from his former role, JK Shin who is also a co-CEO on Samsung’s electronic business will continue to be the head of the company’s entire mobile division that develops new growth businesses and long-term strategies.

Samsung has been the leader in the smartphone business under Android’s ecosystem since the début of Galaxy device particularly the S series which really put the company’s name on the mobile market map. While JK Shin influence is relatively relevant to its mobile business, the shakedown on Samsung’s share in the market which significantly hits an all time low since it peaked a couple of years ago and it has continue to do so and doubling when Samsung released the current generation Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5 devices which omitted two of the company’s big advantage over its competitor the memory expansion slot and the removable battery options.

Samsung hopes to revitalize the company’s influence in the market under Koh’s leadership. With big changes and rising competition in the business, Samsung is now looking into new strategies to make a difference and hopefully recapture customers who were once Samsung device users.
