Samsung announces the new Galaxy Tab S 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch variants

Samsung unveiled the highly anticipated next generation tablet from the Korean tech giant with the new Galaxy Tab S. The new Tablet line features the thinnest profile in any tablet device from Samsung and with highly energy-efficient high-resolution display and exceptional processing power.
With a hint of the design perspective from the Galaxy S5, the new Tab S features the same perforated patterns on the back in which Samsung explains that this pattern provides a tactile pressure feel when holding the device. It also follows its the Galaxy S5’s modern and sleek design with smooth and slim edges.
Samsung has been delivering its tablet with IPS LCD display since the introduction of the first gen Galaxy Tab 7.0 with one exception when the Galaxy Tab 7.7 hit the market sporting the AMOLED display. Users and fans have hope for a long time for Samsung to release a device sporting the same or equivalent display that the Galaxy Tab 7.7 had but to no avail until the Tab S was announced.
With its ability to consume less power while providing the best possible representation of display colors and performance, the tech giant has invested on this display technology to provide the best display it could offer on its flagship device. the long delay from such re-implementation on Samsung tablet devices was due to the fact that the technology was young and new by then until now.
Hardware
As the new generation Tablet device sport the Super AMOLED displays, it also stands out as the first tablet devices having a WQXGA (2560 x 1600) resolutions with 16:10 aspect ratio and has incorporated this technology to the new Galaxy Tab S 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch variants. The new Super AMOLED displays on both devices features more than 90% of Adobe’s RGB color coverage with an impressive 100,000:1 contrast ratio bringing more realistic images by making black more black and white more white. Not only that, with Super AMOLED displays has the ability to turn each individual pixels on or off and does not require backlighting, thus making it more energy-efficient when compared to LCD display.
With the new Galaxy Tab S, Samsung brings its fingerprint sensor to the tablet series, and just like what they did the Galaxy S5, the biometric sensor is embedded on the physical home button of the tablet. All the fingerprint scanning features from the Galaxy S5 can be found on the new Tab S. Its multi user Mode feature has also been upgraded to provide a more secure way to switch between users that is more convenient and safe. Aside from having a fingerprint scanner, the Galaxy Tab S also features a plethora of embedded sensors which includes; Accelerometer, Gyro Sensor, Geomagnetic Sensor, Hall Sensor and an RGB Sensor.
Underneath the Galaxy Tab S shell, both devices comes with an identical features with only the exemption on screen sizes. And to start with, Both devices will either feature an Exynos 5 (5420) Octa-core CPU with ARM’s Big.LITTLE technology coupled with Six-core Mali-T628 GPU clocked at 533 MHz or a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 2.3 GHz Quad-core CPU with Adreno 330 GPU at 450 MHz. The difference in Processors are dependent on which market these devices are being released. Both will sport a Dual-Channel 3 GB RAM, either 16 GB or 32 GB internal storage plus a microSD card support of up to 128 GB which is a welcome feature to those that wanted to extend their storage space.
For Connectivity, both devices will have a Wi-Fi only and LTE variants with the latter to come out later, the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and Galaxy Tab S 10.5 supports the 5th generation Wi-Fi 802.11 ac and 2×2 MIMO, Wi-Fi direct, Bluetooth 4.0 BLE / ANT+, IR blaster, NFC, GPS, GLONASS. It supports MicroUSB 2.0 for wired data transfer and charging.
Software
Out of the Box the Galaxy Tab S comes with Android 4.4 (KitKat) with Samsung’s latest Magazine UX for tablet devices. It also incorporates a lot of features found on the Galaxy S5 such as the Kid’s Mode, Ultra-Power Saving Mode, Private Mode and more. Similar to other devices from Samsung, the Galaxy Tab S comes preloaded with entertainment and productivity apps so users can start using the tablet as soon as they turn on the device for the first time.

Multitasking with Android on Samsung devices is one of the best features that the Korean tech giant have been implementing for years. Users may switch between apps seamlessly and with Multi-Window feature, users can have two apps into view in one screen making it more intuitive and productive.
Connecting to other devices is not a problem with Galaxy Tab S, with Quick Connect, it could easily find and connect other nearby devices for easy content sharing.

Power, Footprint and Availability
As tablets and slates are becoming the entertainment hub of each personal space, power is needed to keep things alive and progressive. As Samsung just made these devices to do just that, they have provided both devices with batteries that could cater the users needs. For Galaxy Tab S 8.4-inch variant, there is a 4,900 mAh battery capacity under the hood while the 10.5-inch variant has 7,900 mAh battery inside.
As we have said earlier, the Galaxy Tab S is the thinnest tablet from Samsung to date. The Galaxy Tab S 8.4-inch measures at 125.6 x 212.8 x 66 mm and weighs 294 gms (WiFi) / 298 gms (LTE). The Galaxy Tab S 10.5-inch variant however has a dimension of 247.3 x 177.3 x 6.6 mm and weighs 465 gms (WiFi) / 467 gms (LTE). It comes in two color options; Titanium Bronze and Dazzling White.
The Galaxy Tab S will be available starting in July 2014 on selected market with a suggested retail price of €399.00 for the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 (WiFi-Only) and €499.00 for the Galaxy Tab S 10.5. The LTE variant of these tablets is expected to follow-up next after the initial release of the Wi-Fi only versions.
