We’ve all know that Wearable devices are a hit this year and they’ll continue to do so for years to come. With increasing wearable demand, Qualcomm responds on time as it introduces the new Snapdragon Wear 4100 series based on the Snapdragon 429 SoC.

Two versions that is: SD Wear 4100 and the SD Wear 4100+ based on 12nm process and features PMIC, RF for modem and GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and RFFE. What makes the Wear 4100+ more advanced that the regular Wear 4100 is that the “+” variant comes with Always-on (AON) co-processor for low power system operations.

The new generation wearable chipset is said to be 85% more efficient than the current Wear 3100 and it clocks at 1.7GHz with four cores Cortex-A53 CPU on it, a Adreno 504 GPU and has a built-in 4G/LTE chip with a dedicated DSP, low-power feature and support for Cat.4 LTE and dual antennas.

It also support 750Hz LPDDR3 RAM and eMMC 4.5 technology for storage. Surprisingly, the new chipset has Dual ISP’s with support for up to 16 Megapixel camera. We haven’t seen any camera-equipped Android Wear based smartwatch in the market but with this feature included in the chip. we might just get one in the near future.

As we’ve mentioned above, the Wear 4100+ variant is equipped with Alway-On co-processor. This part of the chip will be responsible for the battery efficient computing and it supports up to 64K color. With this feature, devices with Wear 4100+ SoC will have a better implementation of continuous heart rate monitor, sleep monitor, step counting, and will handle alarms, timers, and haptic feedback with less power consumption, and it will also offer a faster tilt-to-wake response.

The new Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 series is set to power Android Wear OS and its derivatives with built-in support for WiFi a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity.

Qualcomm unveiled that the Mobvio TicWatch Pro 3 and an upcoming Suunto wearable device will be powered by the new chipset and also the upcoming imoo Z6 Ultra kids smartwatch will make a debut in a month time.
