OnePlus unveiled the new OnePlus 8T

65W charging, 120Hz display

The new OnePlus 8T is more than just and update to the OnePlus 8, more like the 8T leans more towards the 8 Pro but that’s no surprise given the time it took for OnePlus its latest flagship device.

The display on the OnePlus 8T remains the same with a 6.55-inch AMOLED display however, there’s a 120Hz display this time around and an Always-On display (AOD) feature which by the way is new for OnePlus.

The always On display is much more customizable on the OnePlus 8T with a pre-installed themes and then there’s and AI Algorithm that selects the best portrait shot from the gallery which users can use an a AOD Wallpaper.

Furthermore, OnePlus partnered with SnapChat in which users can use their Bitmoji avatar as OAD and it even updates based on user’s activities and surroundings.

Another nifty new feature on the OnePlus 8T is the new battery. The new 8T runs on 4,500mAh battery and supports the new WARP fast charging brick which enables the device to charge up to 65W. Instead of the usual USB-A slot on the brick, the new charger comes with a USB-C port and supports  USB Power Delivery standard that can output up to 45W, so users can charge a compatible laptop, and other gadgets fast.

For imaging, OnePlus has removed the infrared camera from the OnePlus 8, for all we know, OnePlus was put in hot waters for alleged possible spying and privacy concerns of such sensor on a phone that pushed OnePlus to completely disable such function.

The main sensor remains the same with 48 Megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.7 Aperture lens. Its Wide Angle camera is a 16 Megapixel sensor and has a 123° wide angle lens that it is currently the widest yet on a OnePlus device. The other two sensors on the back is a 5 Megapixel macro shooter and a 2 Megapixel monochrome sensor.

Performance-wise, the OnePlus 8T is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset with RAM and storage configuration in either 8GB/128GB or a 12GB/256GB.

The new OnePlus 8T boots OxygenOS 11 that is based on Android 11 out of the box making it as one of the first few devices to come with Android 11 at launch.

The new smartphone device other features including an improved vibration and haptic feedback with the new Haptic 2.0, a nice nifty feature for interactivity and gaming. There’s also a 2 speaker stereo sound with expansive 3D soundscapes with full Dolby Atmos support and there’s there’s a broad vapor chamber for heat dissipation.

The OnePlus 8T comes in two colors: Aquamarine Green and Lunar Silver. As for availability, OnePlus 8T will hit India for an early access on October 16 for INR 43,000 for its 8/128GB and INR 46,000 for the 12/256GB variant.

As for Europe, the OnePlus 8T will become available by October 20. It will also be available in China and Hong Kong. Prices starts at €600/£550 for its 8/128GB model and €700/£650 for the 12GB/256GB variant.
