It’s inevitable, everything has to go out of its existence at some point and this is the fate of the 3.5mm dedicated audio jack on the phone. While OnePlus had been persistent about this nifty little feature for quite some time but it that persistence has and end and with that, OnePlus beginning with the upcoming OnePlus 6T won’t be having that feature any longer.
According to OnePlus co-Founder Carl Pei: “Making a great phone doesn’t mean putting every component available into the device,”.
Recent survey revealed that more than half of OnePlus users were shifting into wireless headphones and that’s even before the company’s own wireless Bullet headphones. More so, a version of Bullet V2 headphones with USB-C were already made available recently which hinted the end of life for the 3.5mm audio jack on future OnePlus devices.
According to Pei, the space that’s supposedly where a 3.5mm jack would sit will be a place for a component of a new tech but it also hinted that his company would also improved the battery life of the upcoming handset. As for the details regarding the matter, Pei did not discussed any further.
As for the OnePlus 6T, the company will include a 3.5mm to USB-C adapter to accommodate existing 3.5mm headphones.
