OnePlus shows off color-changing back with the 8T Concept device
Early this year, OnePlus showed off a concept phone with disappearing camera at CES 2020, now as the year comes to an end, the company is once again showing a concept phone that they simply call the OnePlus 8T Concept.
What the new concept device bring is that it has a distinctively unique color-changing pattern on the back. The technology behind this marvel is a thin layer of film with embedded metal oxide that changes its color depending on the voltages applied which then change the valence state of the metal ions, thus changing its color from silver to dark blue and black.
As for what the tech would do for devices, OnePlus says that the color changing glass can be used as a notification system. Users may no longer need to see what’s on screen all the time to keep them aware for incoming messages or calls for example.
Besides the color-changing back, the 8T Concept also includes an mmWave radar embedded into the camera module of the device. What it can do is that it detects hand gestures which in turn can be used to call actions such as accept or reject calls or take a photo by just waving your hands over the device.
OnePlus also took advantage of the mmWave radar on the 8T Concept with a breathing monitor app. With the technology, the app can keep track on the movement of your chest and can calculate the rate of your breathing.
While the new OnePlus 8T Concept is something one to be had, the company is not making it available to customers as it only showcases some of the technologies that the company is currently working on that might just be available for consumers in the future.
