The OnePlus 6 is the one of the best devices that left from the company’s test lab. True to its slogan being “The Speed You Need”, indeed the latest generation of OnePlus really is blazing fast with the latest processor in the market and of course, the top more RAM offering on any smartphone is all available on the OnePlus 6 packed on the largest display yet from the company. Besides Flagship-grade specs and design, it has always been the company’s mission to offer the best specs available in the market at a price that’s fair enough and that everyone can afford.
The handset comes with a large 6.28-inch Optic AMOLED display and comes with a notch and covers 84% of the front which features an 19:9 Aspect ratio. The display has a Full-HD+ resolution and supports both sRGB and DCI-P3 and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Like most flagships in the market, the OnePlus 6 is powered by no less than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 Chipset with 8-Core CPU and Adreno 630 GPU. It comes with 6GB RAM paired to 64GB of storage or an 8GB RAM with either 128GB or 256GB of storage. To support its claims on speed, the new handset uses 2-Lane UFS 2.1 for faster data I/O. Like its predecessor, the handset does not support storage expansion so one should choose wisely when it comes to their storage needs.
For Photography, OnePlus includes a dual camera sensors on the back of the 6 and now sport OIS and EIS on both sensors. The primary camera is a 16 Megapixel Sony IMX 519 sensor with an f/1.7 Aperture and 1.22 µm pixel size and supports Contrast Detection AF. It’s secondary sensor is a Sony IMX 376K sensor at 20 Megapixel, it has a f/1.7 Aperture, a 1.0 µm pixel size and Phase Detection AF. Both sensors are supported by a dual-tone Dual LED flash. On the front, you’ll get a 16 Megapixel Selfie shooter with f/2.0 Aperture, Gyro-EIS and is Fixed Focus.
With today’s AI development on devices, the OnePlus 6 also comes with it, as if it is now a default on any device to have such feature. With AI, the handset is able to create bokeh effect more effectively and its scene detection called Smart Capture automatically optimizes the image quality based on what you are shooting and a new and improved HDR algorithm for a better and standout photos. On the front, AI is also used to make Face Unlock possible through the front-facing camera.
For video capture, the OnePlus 6 supports multiple modes including a standard 720p video, Full-HD 1080p and up to 4K video recording. Slow motion video recording on the OnePlus 6 is not as super slow as found on the Samsung Galaxy S9 or from the Sony Xperia XZ2 but at 480fps in 720 should be fine as you won’t be taking slow motion videos everyday and in every way as it will just be absurd and weird if you’d ask me.
With qualities going high with every release, the OnePlus 6 is not exception and the company is jumping into the mix of metal and glass for their devices. With metal frame, the OnePlus 6 comes with a full Corning Gorilla Glass 5 lamination on the front and back which also allow OnePlus to introduce new color schemes for the new handset which includes Mirror Black, Matte Midnight Black and a limited edition Silk White variant the two latter schemes are specially manufactured with intricate processes to come out with a matte finish.
The new OnePlus 6 boots OxygenOS based on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with a 3300 mAh Li-Po embedded battery that supports OnePlus proprietary Dash Charging fast-charging feature. Despite its glass back, the handset does not support wireless charging which could be a major enhancement for the handset.
OnePlus claims the new “6” supports water resistance but did not mention their IP rating an IP54 should be the best bet.
The new OnePlus 6 is priced at:
Aside from China, the new OnePlus 6 will be available in some parts of Europe and other strategic parts of world beginning May 22nd. However the Silk White variant will be available by June 5th.
