Nubia Z80 Ultra Debuts with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, 7,200mAh Battery

Nubia is keeping pace in the flagship smartphone scene, and their latest release is the Z80 Ultra brings a number of improvements over last year’s Z70 Ultra, including a new processor, a larger battery, and a revised camera setup.

Unlike last year, the new Nubia Z80 Ultra retains much of the Z70 Ultra’s design, right down to its color options. It features a 6.85-inch BOE X10 AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, and no notch. The latter is particularly notable, as Nubia continues to refine its under-display camera technology. In the Z80 Ultra, the 16MP front camera delivers images that are noticeably clearer than before.

The Z80 Ultra’s 35mm-equivalent main camera uses a custom-built 1/1.3-inch Omnivision 990 sensor, producing more natural, eye-pleasing results that resemble what we see in real life. It’s accompanied by a 64MP periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and a 50MP sensor with an 18mm-equivalent ultrawide lens.

With this upgraded hardware, Nubia has also optimized its imaging software, introducing new AI photography filters that let users choose color profiles on demand. Additionally, you can manually adjust color parameters for more creative control.

Powering the flagship is Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and as much as 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. To maintain performance, the Z80 Ultra employs a composite liquid metal cooling system combined with a 3D Ice Steel VC heat sink for optimal thermal management.

The new Z80 Ultra packs a large 7,200mAh Si/C battery that supports 90W wired charging and 80W wireless charging.

Other noteworthy features include a dedicated camera shutter button, stereo speakers, an in-display fingerprint scanner, and IP68/IP69 dust and water resistance.

Following the trend of photography kits, ZTE also offers an optional accessory designed to resemble a vintage camera case, priced at around $95 USD. It features a T-mount for tripods or camera rigs, supports external lenses, and includes a cold shoe mount for microphones, fill lights, and other add-ons.

The Nubia Z80 Ultra is available in Light White, Phantom Black, and a Starry Sky Collector’s Edition inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s iconic painting. Prices start at CNY 4,999 for the 12GB/512GB model. The device is now available in China, with a global launch scheduled for November 6.
