Nokia X2 : A new generation in the X family bringing better hardware specs and Nokia X Platform 2.0 UI
The new generation Nokia X2 from Nokia’s X family of devices is finally official. The new Nokia X2 packs features hardware specs that goes well beyond expectations, updated underlying software and Nokia’s unique Fastlane experience together with Microsoft software and services.
Design + Features
The first thing you’ll notice when meeting the Nokia X2 is its large display. Measuring at 4.3-inch, the multitouch IPS LCD display features the ClearBlack display technology with 480 x 800 resolutions at 217 pixel per inch (ppi) covered with scratch resistant glass.
Following the same unique design features as the first generation Nokia X and the Asha line, the X2’s shell features a twin layer of colorful polycarbonate inner layer with a translucent outer shell that shines out anywhere.
With X2, navigating through the devices has become much more easier, the days of getting lost on inside the X device is now gone. The Nokia X2 now features a dedicated home button which users have been dreaming off since the launch of Nokia X, the Home button takes the user back straight to the Start screen and the back key pulls back the recent open apps running in the background. Switching and closing apps is also easy with the X platform, long pressing the back key shows the “recent apps list” in which users could either which between open apps our close running apps just by pressing the close (x) button of the app.
There are three uniquely different screens on the new Nokia X2, as part of the extensive UI implementation of the Nokia X Platform 2.0 UI, the Nokia X2 features a Start home screen, swiping to the left takes users to the alphabetical “App List” of all apps installed while swiping to the right goes to the Fastlane – a combination of Notification and most used apps unique to Nokia X and Asha devices.
Exclusive to Nokia devices, the X2 comes with a free voice guided navigation through Nokia Maps with the ability to load maps and navigate offline. It also comes with Microsoft exclusive apps and services such as productivity tools and Office apps, Xbox games and a free cloud storage for documents and multimedia contents which makes sharing and storing documents easy that creates a premium and unique experience from owning a Nokia device.
Since the X Platform 2.0 UI sits on top of Android OS, to access the device’s common settings, users will just have to swipe from the top of the screen and manage services such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, location and even the screen brightness control and easily switch between SIM’s straight from the quick settings menu.
Hardware + Performance
Under the hood, the Nokia X2 comes with significant improvement from its predecessor. The device is powered by a 1.2 GHz Dual-core MSM8210 Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chipset together with a better 1 GB RAM and Adreno 302 graphics. GPS with Assisted GPS support, GLONASS. Unfortunately, the Nokia X2 falls short on internal storage as it only comes with 4 GB leaving the user memory at least around 2GB or less storage space. However, Nokia provides a microSD card slot to expand its storage space with microSD cards of up to 32 GB.
It also feature a front facing camera though it’s only a VGA one but should be enough for video calls and ultimately for daily selfies. On the back, there is a 5 Megapixel shooter with Autofocus feature and LED flash. It has a 1/4-inch sensor size, geo-tagging and with touch focus. both cameras on Nokia X2 is capable to shoot videos at 1080p from the main camera and a 720p video on the front.
Connectivity + Communication
The Nokia X2 features a Dual-SIM capabilities with dual standby which switches between SIM’s at the users’ convenience, connect to a wireless network with 3.5G, 3G, 2.5G and 2G connectivity. For local and nearby devices, the X2 device also features Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP and HS and microUSB 2.0 for data connection and charging.
Though Nokia is now part of Microsoft, the team behind the Nokia X still delivers an Android based device with features that surely indicates that it’s something that came from Nokia, its distinctive looks, its superb hardware features, great Microsoft apps and services makes us want to get the Nokia X2 in our hands.
Not to mention that this device is powered by Android 4.3 underneath, the Nokia X2 is almost compatible with every Android app and games unless indicated. The latest version of Nokia store includes 3rd party apps stores which become a convenient way to find more content.
The Nokia X2 is now available initially in selected regions worldwide with an estimated price of €99.00 before duties and taxes. Converted into Philippine peso, it might cost for about 6 thousand pesos which is more likely considering the hardware upgrade from the previous model. It will be available in glossy green, orange and black, with glossy yellow, white and matte dark grey.
