Nokia was the top mobile phone maker during the mid-90’s through the first decade of 2000 before the proliferation of smartphones from Apple and Android phone makers made the smartphone industry moved into full force which left Nokia behind. Nokia came back in the mobile handset race with its Lumia and Asha line of devices which made the company gained traction. Its success was noticed by Microsoft and last year both companies announced the merge and this year finally holds the full control of Nokia’s mobile business.
As agreed by Nokia and Microsoft, Nokia as a separate entity will not use its name to compete with the same products and services as acquired by Microsoft until December 31, 2015. Though Nokia is no longer in the mobile handset game, the company is pretty much alive with other businesses it offers. The company is also active with its comprehensive Here Maps software, Networking technologies and other services that is still fully controlled by Nokia.
As confirmed by current Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri during the analyst meeting in London, the company wont be returning in the handset industry but will surely “return to the consumer world” he added.
The return that Suri has been talking about will come as soon as tomorrow. Nokia just teased us with something that seems to have confirmed Suri’s claim. the company will present their latest work at Slush 14 Startup and Entrepreneur meeting in Helsinki which starts tomorrow.
From the teaser image, it seems that the image shows a silhouette of what some sort of HTPC, a TV box or something a multimedia device or perhaps an automation technology. Though no further details about the mysterious device, everything else will be made clear tomorrow during the event.
