When it comes to laptops, Toshiba was among of choices for reliable hardware in the market (My mom still uses her decade old Toshiba laptop and it still make things done), however if she decides to buy a new one, she would have to look for other brands as Toshiba, quietly exits the Laptop business and practically its PC business.

The company initially sold its 80.1 percent of stakes in its PC business to Sharp for $36 Million ending its 35-year run in the PC business. The turnover led Sharp to rename the newly acquired division to Dynabook. The remaining shares were completely transferred to Sharp a couple of months ago and this means that Dynabook is now wholly owned by Sharp.

An official statement from Toshiba can be accessed in the Source below.

Toshiba is know to be the first ever to release a PC laptop back in 1985 with the T1100 with a floppy drive, a removable battery and 256k memory and was sold for $2,000.

The eventual decline in PC sales brought Toshiba’s market share its significant decrease from 17.7 Million of units sold in 2011 down to 1.4 Million in 2017.
