Nintendo just announced the latest 3DS handheld gaming device which the company simply called the “new 3DS”. 2 variant of these devices will be available in the market, the new Nintendo 3DS and the new Nintendo 3DS XL (LL in Japan), both of which features a small “C-Stick” found on the upper right hand side just above the SNES like buttons. Nintendo President Satoru Iwata pointed out the inclusion of the new “C-Stick” in 3DS has been inspired from Gamecube’s C-Stick in mind and it’s easy to use. Though the “C-Stick” functions like a small joystick but it looks more like a button according to Iwata and works more closely to control the camera functions and angles in games.
The new Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL also features a new NFC function built-in to the lower display that would work with NFC tagged accessories like the Amiibo figurines. Users can simply put the NFC enabled figurines right on the lower display and the 3DS can scan and read them from there.
Unlike the previous generation of 3DS, the new handheld gaming device features a new and improved “Super Stable 3D” technology that renders the 3D image highly visible at any angle. The new 3DS uses both the camera and the gyro sensors to track the players face and will re-render the 3D images on the screen as needed. Also as display and rendering has been improved, the new 3DS can also adjust the screen brightness depending the ambient lighting, this will ensure optimal screen visibility and improved battery life.
In addition to the L and R buttons on the top of the device, Nintendo has added the ZR and ZL buttons as well and users that would require more memory than the gaming device can provide, users can also use a microSD card for memory expansion which is located on the back of the device. The game card port for the new 3DS and 3DS XL has been move to the front for easy access.
According to rumors, the new 3DS and 3DS XL comes with a processor inside but Nintendo is yet to confirm this information but should be unveiled soon since the new handheld device will go on sale starting on October 11, 2014 in Japn for a price of 16,000 Yen for the new 3DS and 18,800 Yen for the new 3DS LL. we could expect the company to bring out the device to other regions as well but it’s more likely not this year but something like 2015 probably.
