New Philippine law now requires Family with kids to install child seats on cars
Beginning Monday, February 1st the Republic Act 11229 or the Child Safety in Motor Vehicles Act takes effect which prohibits children under 12 years of age to sit in front passenger seats on cars.
Apart from this new directive, the law also requires drivers and owners of the vehicle to install a properly secured child seat when driving with children unless the child is about 4.92 feet tall and that it can be secured through a regular seat belt.
Under the new law, violators are to be fined with Php 1,000 for the first offense and Php 2,000 for the second offense. If the driver is again caught the third time around, there’s a Php 5,000 fine plus a year suspension of their driver’s license.
As the new law takes effect tomorrow, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and its deputized law enforcement agencies will drive a massive information campaign which is set to go for about two to six months and will be on the warning mode for anyone caught violating the new law.
What does that mean is that the LTO personnel or its deputized units will not be issuing any citation tickets during the information campaign period.
