MIUI 12 goes official with new visuals

Xiaomi together with the announcement of the new Mi 10 Youth 5G, also announced the company’s new proprietary interface MIUI 12. The new version of the user interface brings a huge update on design with flatter interface and a handful of new interface animations. It also provides better security and privacy and also improves the overall functionality.

With MIUI 12, closing and starting apps comes with a new and better animation design and is more faster than any previous version of MIUI. There’s also an immersive animations on locking or unlocking your phone.

There’s also Dark Mode 2.0 which enables a wallpaper dimming with font contrast adjustments all done automatically to make text more easier to ready and lessens eye strains.

It also improves its always-on display functionality and allows windowed apps to float around your display. Stock Android’s Gesture navigations is now fully supported on MIUI 12 with an improved dropdown Notification management with a built-in quick-reply feature.

Privacy + Security

MIUI 12 improves your privacy by tracking apps that abuses permissions. In also has a new Virtual ID security protocol that prevents suspicious apps from accessing your personal information.

For security, MIUI 12 can set permissions for apps that can be access from the lockscreen, the usual example for this is the camera app. Also when sharing of photos or videos, MIUI 12 can choose not to share your privacy information to another device that media contents usually carries, it might me your name or your location.

Accessibility

Xiaomi added call transcribing on the MIUI 12 with AI Calling functionality, this should help deaf and mute users communicate and understand calls from a phone with the system can also suggests responses on current conversations in real time.

There’s also the new Mi Health app that uses a new AI algorithm to keep track on your health. It can also track your sleep without the need for a special additional tracking or wearable device, all you need to do is place your phone under your pillow and that’s it.

The new MIUI 12 is currently on closed beta testing and is currently available for Chinese users with Chinese versions for Xiaomi handsets. The company is set to make the new user interface available for Xiaomi users by June and they are expected to be released by region, so keep an eye on it for your device.
