Microsoft Windows 11 is here, it’s a free upgrade but will your system run it?

With Windows 11 just around the corner, I can’t help myself but to check if my system is in for an upgrade. It’s a customary I usually take whenever a new version of Windows becomes available for users. Every new Windows release, Microsoft makes a system checker that will diagnose your system for compatibility issues and when it finds one, it will straightforwardly tell you that your system is not eligible.

With that being said, so I downloaded and run the PC Health Check app from microsoft.com and weighs at around 14kb. To run it, simply install the checker and run it straight forward and should show you this screen:

Unfortunately for me, my system is now 8 years old running 4th gen Intel chip and like I said earlier, I told me my system isn’t compatible.

What does this mean is that, this is a slight departure from Microsoft, earlier practice when it literally support older hardware. Now it only takes 8th-generation Intel and second generation AMD Ryzen CPU’s and that it requires that your system has Trusted Platform Module (TPM) enabled. The latter is basically a security chip in your system that provides a unique key identifier that tells the system that your computer hasn’t been tampered.

So basically, older devices such as mine is compatible in some degree but Windows 11 supports later version of CPU’s and that becomes a problem to users like me. It’s even more problematic for users with 32bit CPU’s as Microsoft explicitly requires 64-bit system to run Windows 11.

Will I upgrade my system? I’ll think about it but in my perspective, upgrading an 8 year old system isn’t going to give me a long term advantage, maybe building or buying a new system is the most practical way from here forward.

Do note that Windows 11 will be a free upgrade for compatible existing Windows 10 systems. For a more detailed Windows 11 system requirements, head over to the source below to learn more.
