Microsoft HoloLens revealed, bringing new possibilities in entertainment
Microsoft introduced a number of new products and developments during the special Windows 10 event held last January 21st. One of which is the company’s new project the HoloLens – a new wearable hologram device that is able to provide digital hologram objects that interacts with real life environment.
Right after the Windows 10 event, Microsoft Xbox led Phil Spencer was asked if the company is also working on a virtual reality headset, the answer is a mixed of yes and no. According to Spencer, HoloLens is an alternate response to virtual reality devices. But Microsoft has made something that no other company has ever done before, mixed both the digital and real world environments in real-time. When asked if the new HoloLens would work with the company’s console, Spencer pointed out that the Minecraft demo is somewhat the answer to that question, the implication of such technology in gaming is a game-changing indeed.
Spencer specifically clarifies that the HoloLens is a different beast, it’s not like the Oculus Rift, Samsung VR headset or Sony’s Project Morpheus, the HoloLens is something else, it’s not a head-mounted display to show a completely virtual environment. One of the things that the HoloLens could distance itself from the competition is that it stands on its own, has its own processing unit, runs Windows 10 operating system from its small body and has a power pack on its own. It’s obviously a wearable computer that acts like a computer.
But one thing is for sure from HoloLens, it will change the way you play video games in the future. The possibilities of such technology are endless, Microsoft is brainstorming as to what they could possibly come up with. harnessing the power between HoloLens and Xbox is one of the key points that Microsoft is considering, or better yet a set of possibilities that would not only focus on games alone but a broad spectrum of other entertainment experiences.
