Meta Expands Smart Glasses Line with Oakley Partnership: Introducing the Oakley Meta HSTN

Meta is making its Meta AI Glasses more accessible through a new partnership with long-established eyewear brand Oakley. The two companies recently announced their collaboration on the Oakley Meta HSTN smart AI glasses.

The product has already generated buzz online, with early rumors suggesting significant improvements over the Meta Ray-Bans. While some speculated that the new Meta glasses would feature a camera mounted on the bridge, the Oakley Meta HSTN retains the familiar side-mounted camera, with an LED indicator light on the opposite arm.

The glasses feature a 12MP ultrawide camera capable of capturing 3K video—an upgrade from the Full HD resolution of the Meta Ray-Bans. Additional features include POV video calls, photo capture, and full livestreaming capabilities.

Meta and Oakley describe the Oakley Meta HSTN as “Performance AI Glasses.” Users can interact with Meta AI to ask about their surroundings, current conditions, or tasks they’re engaged in—whether it’s a specific activity or a casual stroll.

According to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the frames, based on Oakley’s HSTN style, are “built for action.” They boast an IPX4 water resistance rating, making them suitable for light rain or drizzly runs. Depending on the variant, they also come with Prizm or Prizm Polarized lenses, which offer UV protection.

The frames include open-ear Bluetooth speakers and five built-in microphones for clear audio. This setup supports recording, voice commands, phone calls, messaging, and music playback from a connected device. A new addition to Meta’s smart glasses is live translation, allowing real-time multilingual assistance. The glasses also feature touch-sensitive controls on the side for adjusting volume and accessing other functions.

For sight-impaired users, the Oakley Meta HSTN can describe visual surroundings through its camera. Additionally, integration with the Be My Eyes network enables users to request on-demand human assistance.

Battery life is rated at 8 hours of typical usage per charge, with a standby time of up to 19 hours. The included charging case can recharge the glasses up to 50% in 22 minutes, and 85% in 45 minutes. In total, the case provides up to 40 hours of on-the-go charging.

A limited-edition Oakley Meta HSTN will be available featuring gold accents and 24K Prizm Polar lenses, priced at $499. Pre-orders begin on July 11 in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Australia, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark. Additional markets—including Mexico, India, and the United Arab Emirates—are expected to follow later this year.
