Meizu finally took the wraps off of their new flagship devices the new Meizu Pro 5. Positioned to compete in the high-end segment, the Pro 5 is built on a metallic outer shell with a front fully laminated by a 2.5D curved glass for that extra smooth surface. The new Pro 5 is also one of the best looking smartphone from the company to date and has leveled itself in terms of specs from top-end companies in the market.
The new handset features a 5.7-inch AMOLED display with a 1080p full-HD resolution and underneath the exterior furniture is a technological powerhouse that makes us wanting this new device. The Samsung Exynos 7420 provides the processing power of the device and comes with a pair of either 3GB of RAM with 32 GB of built-in storage or with a 4 GB RAM and an even more spacious 64 GB of storage. Both of these variants comes supports microSD cards which will even expand the built-in storage capacity of the device.
In support for new technologies, Meizu now supports USB Type-C and the Pro 5 is one of the company’s first to include the new USB port. Like the MX5 which already has a remarkable fingerprint scanner, the Pro 5 also include the said feature that sits on the Home button of the device. Fingerprint scanners on these devices functions the same and their only difference is that the Pro 5 comes with an improved version of the scanning modules which allows the handset to scan fingerprints more faster and more accurate.
The Pro 5 camera is one of the areas that Meizu has tackled more evidently, given the rise of use and eventual demise of the standalone cameras, Meizu made sure that you’ll need not to wear your separate camera again as the Meizu Pro 5 is already equipped with a better camera module that comes with a 21 Megapixel Sony IMX230 sensor. Meizu also claims that the camera on the new Pro 5 could capture images in just 0.7 second. The front is also worth mentioning as it includes an OmniVision OV5670 5 Megapixel shooter that is more than enough for you Selfies and video calls.
With support for USB Type-C, the new Pro 5 comes with a built-in 3050 mAh battery and is equipped with fast charging capabilities with the improved M Charge 2.0 which Meizu claims fast charge the device from an empty state to 65 per cent of power in under 30 minutes.
The new handset features HiFi 2.0 audio chip which is basically comprises an ES9018 signal processor and OPA1612 headphone amplifier audio chips for quality sounds and voice clarity. Shipping with the new Meizu Pro 5 is the company’s latest Flyme 5 OS based on Android 5.0 Lollipop.
The new Meizu Pro 5 will launch in October 12 and will cost 2799 Yuan (US$438) for the base variant with 3GB RAM/32GB storage while a pricier version having 4GB RAM/64 GB storage will cost you 3099 Yuan (US$485). Meizu is also offer an even more premium versions of the package which includes a Harman Kardon stereo kit for 4098 Yuan (US$642) or the Soho II NC with active noise cancellation headset for 3698 Yuan (US$579). Currently the handset is available for purchase in China but we also expect Meizu to make the new Pro 5 available to other markets but we’re not sure when.
