In a few moments now, LG start rolling out the Lollipop update for the G Pad 7.0, G Pad 8.0 and the G Pad 10.1. LG has already set the date for the update roll out this April 12 and users should be able to upgrade their device operating system automatically.
As for users with G Pad 8.3, LG hasn’t release any information about the fate of the slate in receiving any major updates despite being capable and even surpass the new LG G Pads in terms of specs for instance. Google already had the GPE variant of the G Pad 8.3 (V500) updated to Lollipop and we don’t see any reason for the standard G Pad 8.3 devices not to receive updates to Android 5.x Lollipop as well. Though users can always turn to unofficial Android 5.0 ROM’s, it’s a bit risky for most of us and with the possibility of bricking the device that would render the slate unusable.
As for the new G Pads, LG is readying its server for the mass update but for some it should come to their devices in a few days time knowing that regional and time difference between regions and the server traffic also contributes in the delivery of updates among units. So if you don’t see any sign that your compatible G Pad isn’t informing you about the set updates, better let the device check for updates automatically or do a manual check as well now and then.
If automatic updates isn’t your thing, you can turn to LG’s website and download the ROM from there. LG hasn’t been vocal about the update and its pretty unclear about what features are included with the update except those already known new features from Google.
