Leonid Meteor Shower at its peak this midnight

It’s the time of the year when Leonid Meteor Shower is once again visible in the night skies. The meteor shower is said to be visible in the sky two days prior and two days after its peak on Tuesday (November 17, 2020). According to PAG-ASA Astronomical Observation and Time Service Unit Chief Mario Raymundo, the best time to observe this prolific meteor showers in between midnight and the dawn of the next day and that’s about 2AM and 4AM at most.

However, unlike in previous years, Leonid Meteor showers are expected to be less this year, with about 15 or so meteors can be seen by a single observer in an hour between the late hours of November 17 and the day before sunrise on the following day.

The Leonid Meteor Showers is radiant from in the constellation Leo which is located in the eastern section of the sky are bits of debris left behind by the repeat passages through the inner solar system of comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle.
