Unlike in the past, Huawei is no longer making noise for its newly announced Mate X2, that is, at least in the international scene, however in China, things are quite different as the company announced their new foldable device since 2019 with bigger promises and so much of excitement.
A lot has change since then that the new Mate X2 has obviously distant itself from its predecessor. One things that’s change with the device is the design approach. It no longer had the single folding display but instead adopted the Samsung Galaxy Fold approach with two different screens for two faces.
The new Huawei Mate X2 is built with two displays. The outside primary display has a 6.45-inch OLED display while the inside is one that folds up revealing a large 8-inch OLED display. Both display are high resolution with 2700×1160 and 2480×2200 resolutions respectively. They are also equipped with 90Hz refresh rate for smoother experience.
The device is powered by Huawei’s own Kirin 9000 chipset, the same that powered by the Mate 40 Pro. It also got 8GB of RAM and with either 256GB or a hefty 512GB of expandable storage through NM Cards.
For imaging, the Huawei Mate X2 cameras is co-developed with Leica and includes a quad-main sensors with 50 Megapixel primary, 16 Megapixel equipped with Ultra Wide lens, a 12 Megapixel Telephoto and a 8 Megapixel “SuperZoom” camera with 10x optical zoom. For Selfies, the device comes with a 16 Megapixel camera with a 3D sensor.
With the Mate X2, Huawei has introduced a new designed hinge which folds the main screen up to 180-degrees that virtually eliminates the gaps when folded. It also helps keep the main screen free from creases.
So as expected for every new Huawei device, the Mate X2 doesn’t come and support Google Mobile Services and all accompanying apps which might not appeal to international users but should be fine in China. Also, Huawei has stated that the new Mate X2 will be one of the first devices to transition to the new HarmonyOS when they become available this coming April. For now, it runs on Huawei’s EMUI 11.0 that is based on Android 10.
Keeping it going is a rather mediocre 4,400mAh battery but we’re glad to know that it could be charged up to 55W fast charging, that is with a proper 55W charger.
The new Huawei Mate X2 is available in colors Crystal Blue, Crystal Pink, Black and White in China starting February 25th with a price of CNY 17,999 (around $2,785) for its 256GB variant while a 512GB version got for CNY18,999 (around $2,940).
