Four new devices: Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro+ and Porsche Design Huawei Mate 40 RS
The round camera module in Huawei Mate series is here to stay as the company unveiled the new Mate 40 series during a digital online only event. The special event outs the new Huawei Mate 40 with four new devices: the Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, a Mate 40 Pro+ and the special edition Huawei Mate 40 RS.
camera
Co-engineered with Leica, these new devices flexes Huawei’s imaging supremacy with a brand new 50 Megapixel SuperSensing main camera. The main camera has a 1/1.28” sensor becoming one of the largest sensors ever in a smartphone. Together with these feats, the main sensor comes with an omnidirectional autofocus and a f/1.9 Aperture lens with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and a laser autofocus for fast and straight up accurate focus locks on subjects.
In comes with an Ultra Wide camera, for the Mate 40, you’ll get a 16 Megapixel camera while the Pro and the Pro+ comes with a 20 Megapixel sensor with a free-form lens. What the Free-form lens does it that it minimize distortion when using the Ultra Wide sensor so you can say goodbye to side distortion that you find on Ultra Wide shots.
For Telephoto, the Mate 40 comes with a basic 8 Megapixel Telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom with OIS. The Mate 40 Pro a Periscope-equipped 12 Megapixel Telephoto sensor that offers a 5x optical zoom with better image clarity.
While the Mate 40 and the Mate 40 Pro boosts a significant improvement over last year’s device, The Mate 40 Pro+ is making that improvements leap further by not just having one but two Periscope-equipped cameras. There’s a 12 Megapixel telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom. and an 8 Megapixel Telephoto camera with up to 10x optical zoom. What’s even more fantastic is that both of these telephoto cameras comes with OIS.
For Selfies, With the even growing demand for Selfie or self-portrait shots from users, Huawei equipped the all new Mate 40 variants with a 13 Megapixel Ultra Vision Selfie Camera with Wide Angle lens with a f/2.4 Aperture.
With Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro+, there’s 3D depth sensor on the front which enables the device to take an accurate Face ID facial recognition.
The main camera on the Mate 40 series can take 4K videos at 60fps and slow-motion videos in 1080p at 480fps. It can even take a super-slow-mo time-still shots at 3,840fps in 720p.
display
The Mate 40 comes with a 6.5-inch display while the two Pro’s are wit 6.76-inch. These devices all comes with an OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. They are all curved on the sides as well giving a sense of wrap-around up-front.
While a good display is quite entertaining but that simply needs to sum-up with better speakers and for that, Huawei equipped the new Mate 40 series with stereo speakers.
performance
With the introduction of the new Mate 40 series, Huawei also introduced us to the new HiSilicon Kirin 9000 series chipset. This new chipset is a new octa-core CPU based on a 5nm process and combines both CPU and NPU units with a 3.13GHz primary core.
The Huawei Mate 40 is equipped with the Kirin 9000E chipset with a 22-core GPU. The Huawei Mate 40 Pro and the Mate 40 Pro+ on the other hand gets the top of the line Kirin 9000 chipset with a slightly up boosted GPU with 24-cores.
For RAM and storage configurations, both the Mate 40 and the Mate 40 Pro comes with 8GB of RAM with a choice of 128GB or 256GB storage for the Mate 40 while the Mate 40 Pro gets a default 256GB of storage. The Mate 40 Pro+ gets more RAM at 12GB and storage at only 256GB as well.
The Mate 40 series supports NM Cards of up to 256GB in capacity and this is not easy to come by at the moment, so if you find one then you’re lucky.
power and power delivery
of all three primary variants of the series, the Mate 40 gets a modest battery pack with a 4200 mAh. However, it supports 40W fast charging and that should fill up the battery in no time.
For the Mate 40 Pro and the Mate 40 Pro+ is a different story though as it comes with a bigger 4,400mAh battery pack. It also supports a faster 66W fast wired-charging.
As that was so specific, it is mainly because these two Pro’s also supports wireless charging up to 50W. Not only that, it also features reverse wireless charging which will enable the device to wirelessly charge other wireless devices that are compatible.
other features
We’ve mentioned that main features up there and now the minor ones, don’t get me wrong but these minor features are the keys to making the new Mate 40 series great.
Straight up the Mate 40 is equipped with 5G as the chipset it runs into comes with the modem built-in. With other connectivity features, you’d also get the new WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC and you’d also get an InfraRed port.
The Mate 40 series also supports Huawei’s M Pen 2 Stylus and there’s also an touch-free AI gesture support which does a variety of this like browsing your photos, flipping through an e-book, answer and end calls and audio playback controls without touching the phone.
Do you have an unwanted calls perhaps and want to stop that ringtone? you can basically just look at the phone and it will automatically turn down the ringer volume for you.
EMUI
Huawei has keep improving its user interface and the new Mate 40 series runs on the latest EMUI 11 that is based on Android 10, one thing that you need to understand though is that the new EMUI doesn’t have Google Mobile Services and instead relies on Huawei’s own Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) with its own version of an App store known as the App Gallery.
With much improvements on the UI, Huawei also has upgraded its Multi-screen Collaboration feature which allows you to teleport your apps to your PC.
colors, price, and availability
The Huawei Mate 40 comes in Mystic Silver, White, Black, Green, and Yellow color options. Huawei didn’t exactly mentioned when the new device will hit the market but for it did mention that the price would start at 899 Euros with its 8GB/128GB configuration.
The Mate 40 Pro comes in Mystic Silver and Black color variants while the Mate 40 Pro+ uses a ceramic back with a Ceramic White and Ceramic Black color options. Price for the Mate 40 Pro is at 1,200 Euros and for the Mate 40 Pro+ at 1,400 Euros.
Porsche Design Huawei Mate 40 RS
In addition to the new Mate three primary Mate 40 devices, Huawei also comes with the new special edition Porsche Design Huawei Mate 40 RS.
The new Porsche Design Huawei Mate 40 RS is based on the Huawei Mate 40 Pro+ with a specialized back design. To differentiate it from the rest, the Mate 40 RS uses an octagonal-designed camera module and a design strip running in the middle.
Specifically configured for the RS model is its 12GB RAM and 512GB storage configuration and because of that and given the Luxurious elements placed on the design, you’ll have to shell out 2,300 Euros to get one.
