If you’ve been eyeing for an HTC device but find it too pricey to pick one or can’t seem to afford one. Well, you may have one reason to get a unit for yourself now as HTC released the Desire 616 exclusive for the Asian market. The Desire 616 was first launched in China and it spontaneously spread across other Asian region.

The Desire 616 targets to mid-range market that’s usually predominated by other players and especially the local mobile phone companies. HTC like other big names in the industry is now setting its eye to these areas as potential customers are more willing to buy devices from large companies when the price is up to their budget.

The HTC Desire 616 features a 5-inch HD display and a dual SIM support, much like the plastic version of HTC’s latest flagship One M8 but the Desire 616 tends to be much more affordable. It is powered primarily by a 1.4 GHz Octa-core processor a 1 GB of RAM and 4 GB of storage space. Though the storage seems smaller that the usual, it can still be expanded via a microSD slot which supports up to 32 GB microSD card.

It also comes with a 8 Megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED flash and standard 2 Megapixel on the front. Both of which are capable of taking 1080p video recording. Since it’s a budget friendly device however, the Desire 616 missed the signature Boomsound dual front speakers that were common recently on HTC devices. The Desire 616 opted to a standard mono speaker situated on the back.

Feature-wise, the Desire 616 brings a lot of good specs to the table and the interface offers a wide range of options including BlinkFeed which was introduced in HTC’s One. BlinkFeed shows all the latest information from news sites and social network feed, it also feature an “Offline Reading mode” to access articles without a being connected to the internet. This would benefit users with limited data plans.

The Desire 616 is currently available in most Asian countries. According to HTC, they currently have no plans to extend the availability of the device to region outside of Asia and Russia. HTC is also gearing up to bring out new Desire line of devices in each quarter as they touch more countries in Asia. In Singapore the Desire 616 is currently priced at $293.00 (US$ 238) or around 12K or less when they reach the Philippines shores.

Though HTC have not released any information regarding the availability of the device in the Philippines or a planned Launch event but understanding the progress of mobile market in the country, it would be unwise for HTC to miss the Philippines especially how affordable for Filipinos this new device is having. So for now let’s wait and see what happens.
