Honor unveiled the new V40 5G

A special event was held in China recently for the announcement of the new Honor V40 5G, the company’s first device after it officially separated itself from Huawei.

The company’s new smartphone device despite officially having a new owners has a ting Huawei as it built the brand over the years. These includes the aesthetics and style as well as features that we are going to go about next.

The new Honor V40 5G is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ and comes with a standard 8GB of RAM and a choice between 128GB or 256GB of built-in storage and no microSD slot for memory expansion.

It has a 6.72-inch AMOLED display with 1236 x 2676 pixels resolution and features a 120Hz refresh rate with support of up to 1B of colors and 800nits of brightness. There’s also an Always-on display since it’s an AMOLED screen and a pill-shaped cutout from the upper left corner for its 16 Megapixel front-facing camera with a color spectrum sensor.

On the back, the camera module houses a triple camera system with a 50 Megapixel RYYB primary sensor with a large 1/1.56” sensor and a pixel size of 1.0µm. This is supported by a 8 Megapixel Ultra Wide camera and a 2 Megapixel macro shooter.

The battery on this new device is rated at 4,000mAh and it supports existing Huawei’s 66W wired fast charging. There’s also wireless charging included which is rated at 50W.

The new smartphone comes with Magic UI 4.0 out of the box however, this one is sitting on top of Android 10 and there is no Google Mobile Services on board as well. This is mainly due to the fact that the handset is set to be marketed in China where GMS is virtually none existent. But in case it leaks out from its home country, independent devs will surely make a workaround to make them usable elsewhere.

The new Honor V40 5G is now on store shelves in China and is available in Night Black, Titanium Silver, and Rose Gold with pricing are as follows:

8GB/128GB = CNY3,599 (US$556)

8GB/256GB = CNY3,999 (US$620)
