HMD Global has been successful in bringing back the Nokia brand in the market. Since its reentry in the market last year, the company continues to surge with new models and has updated their 2017 lineup. Just earlier, HMD Global formally launched the 2018 Nokia lineup in the Philippines but so far, the Nokia 7 Plus and the Nokia 1 are the only devices that made into our store shelves.
We still have to see the new Nokia 6 (2018) and the resurrection of Nokia’s 8110 now in 4G. HMD Global during their Philippine launch promised to bring both devices by May and as we enter the next calendar month, the company now officially announced the pricing of these devices which many users have waited actually.
First the Nokia 6 (2018) will be in stores this coming May 14 with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The handset officially available in the Philippines will be the Blue/Gold color variant. Though there might also be the possibility of other color variants to come out later but for now, that’s what HMD Global is introducing for Filipinos.
The new Nokia 6 (2018) handset comes with a 5.5-inch IPS display with a 16:9 Aspect ratio. Powering the device is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 Chipset with Adreno 508 GPU included in the set. It comes with a single camera on the back but is more than capable than you’d expect from its 16 Megapixel sensor with Phase Detection AF and dual-tone LED flash. As part of the Android One program, the handset runs stock Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box
Now the price of the handset is set at 15,990 Php. That’s a little less than what we initially anticipated. That’s a good thing as the price is all reasonable knowing that it has the upgrades needed compared to its predecessor.
Next is the 8110 4G. It is part of Nokia’s revival of old Nokia Phones and the 8110 variant is one of the iconic Nokia series of devices as the original version of it was featured in The Matrix film from the late 90’s with its slide out keypad cover.
Known as Banana phone, the 8110 4G features a curved body design in a shape of a banana where it got its nickname. The slide out keypad cover not only protects the keypad but also as way to answer and end calls.
The new 8110 reboot comes with a large 2.4-inch display for a feature phone and now comes with 4G radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and even GPS. It runs on a new Nokia Smart Feature OS called KaiOS which is based on FireFoxOS that brings smartphone features in feature phones. Not only that, Nokia also made the 8110 4G splash proof with its IP52 drip protection rating.
The new Nokia 8110 4G will be available on May 14 as well in either Black for an elegant look and the Banana Yellow for the funky ones. What every color variant you’re getting, the price is fairly attractive at just 3,990 Php, now that’s something to look forward to.
