HMD Global announced new entry-level devices: Nokia 1 Plus and Nokia 210

Ahead of MWC 2019, HMD Global unveiled two of the company’s entry-level handsets, one a feature phone and another an Android device. Let’s take a look…

First up, we have the Nokia 1 Plus.

The new Nokia 1 Plus is a direct update to last year’s Nokia 1 and as the name suggests, this new handset is the larger and sleeker. Like its predecessor, the new version of the handset runs Android Go with now being based on Android 9 Pie.

The handset has a 5.45-inch IPS LCD display but despite the larger screen, it’s got a low resolution at 480 x 960 pixel though with an 18:9 Aspect ratio. Images on the display might awfully look pixelated but knowing that this is a budget device, you’ll complain less.

It is powered by a Quad-core MediaTek processor with a PowerVR GE8100 GPU. There’s 1GB of RAM and 8GB of onboard storage. Storage is expandable with microSD cards which you might want to do so at first boot as storage demand for apps and just about anything this days are getting higher and higher.

The camera on the new Nokia 1 Plus has also been bumped up. Now, the main camera on the back is an 8MP sensor with autofocus and LED flash while the Selfie camera shoots at 5MP.

The new handset comes with a polycarbonate shell and a 3D nano-pattern on the back and is interchangeable and the battery with 2150 mAh capacity is also removable.

The new Nokia 1 Plus will be available in Blue, Black and Red and will cost $89. There will also be a limited 16GB variant to become available later in the Latin America and comes with a price tag of $99.

Nokia’s feature phone with the new Nokia 210

Nokia may now have fully embraced Android for its smartphone devices but feature phones are still the bread and butter for the brand. And so the company unveils the new Nokia 210 with an iconic design reminiscent to the Nokia 3210, though now everyone doesn’t seem to notice that but looking up front it reminded us on our college days.

So yeah, the Nokia 210 is HMD’s mobile phone with a keymat this year. Like the 2017 Nokia 3310, the Nokia 210 also has a 2.4-inch display but it sport a VGA camera on the back that is paired with an LED flash that doubles as flashlight.

The new Nokia 210 is driven by Nokia’s S30 software so it doesn’t feature any form of smart features on this phone like you’d expect from the 8110 4G, this however can connect to the internet through Wi-Fi or eGPRS.

Browse the web with the built-in Opera browser, Facebook app and get entertained with the classic Snake game. There will also be a Mobile app store to expand your apps collections, wallpaper and ringtones.

The handset comes with a large 1020 mAh battery with up to almost a month on standby.

The Nokia 210 will be available in Red, Gray and Black starting next month for just $35.
