HMD Global adds new Nokia X, Nokia G and Nokia C on its 2021 lineup
Nokia was given another shot in the smartphone market through HMD Global and focuses mainly on entry-level and mid-range segment. While fans longed for flagship devices from the company, that seems not to be the priority of the brand at the moment.
With that being said, Nokia announced new range of devices for 2021 with the Nokia X, Nokia G and Nokia C series. These series of devices are meant to serve the entry-level segment and are broken down into three different price points..
Nokia X
You could say that this series is the top of the three with two new devices: the Nokia X10 and Nokia X20. both variants are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 chipset with 5G support Quad cameras on the back with ZEISS lenses and a 4,470mAh battery pack supporting 18W fast charging.
Both comes with a 6.67-inch Full-HD+ IPS LCD display with a punch hole on top. It comes with a 3.5mm audio jack and connectivity support such as Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC, USB-C and FM Radio. It also comes with a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button, Google assistant button and runs Android 11 out of the box and features IP52 water resistance.
Nokia X10
The new X10 has a quad-camera sensor on the back with a 48 Megapixel sensor as its primary shooter together with a 5 Megapixel Ultra Wide, a 2 Megapixel macro and 2 Megapixel for depth sensing, while the front has a 8 Megapixel Selfie shooter. The device supports three configurations of RAM and storage combos: 4GB/128GB, 6GB/64GB and a 6GB/128GB.
Nokia X20
The X20 on the other hand gets a few upgraded features with its primary imaging sensor at 64 Megapixel and its Selfie camera on the front runs at 32 Megapixel. The device is available in two configuration options including 6GB/128GB and 8GB/128GB of RAM and storage combos.
Nokia G
The G series sound like gaming, at least for an entry-level device with MediaTek’s Helio G series chipset. HMD Global intros the Nokia G10 and Nokia G20 for this series with 4G LTE radios and a huge battery pack.
Both the Nokia G10 and the Nokia G20 are looking a lot identical with their 6.5-inch IPS LCD v-notch display having HD+ resolution, a huge 5,050mAh battery and Android 11 out of the box.
Feature-wise, both devices comes with a dedicated 3.5mm Audio jack, NFC, Wi-Fi, GPS USB-C port and FM Radio. Their fingerprint sensor is mounted on the power button and it comes with Google Assistant button as well.
Nokia G20
While both devices shares the same specs, the Nokia G20 packs more performance that its sibling with a MediaTek Helio G35 chipset paired with 4GB RAM as standard and either a 64GB or a 128GB of expandable storage.
For imaging, the G20 is equipped with Quad main camera with a 48 Megapixel primary sensor followed by a 5 Megapixel Ultra Wide, 2 Megapixel macro and a 2 Megapixel depth sensor. The selfie shooter is an 8 Megapixel camera that should be enough for casual Selfies, Face Unlock and high resolution video calls.
Nokia G10
The device is powered by a MediaTek Helio G25 and you have two choices of RAM with either 3GB or 4GB and an expandable storage between 32GB or 64GB.
For photos and videos, the G10 rather has a triple camera sensor on the back with a 13 Megapixel sensor as its primary together with two 2 Megapixel sensor for macro and depth sensing each. Like the G20, the G10’s front camera is also an 8 Megapixel sensor that not only works for Selfies but for Face Unlock too.
Nokia C
Moving down to a more affordable devices that is priced nearly as cheap as the company’s feature phones is what the Nokia C is all about. Available in the series is the Nokia C10 and the Nokia C20, both are powered by Android Go, a lightweight version of Android 11 that works with low-powered devices.
Both phones comes with a 6.52-inch LCD V-notch display having an HD+ resolution. they are basically identical in all areas which can be said true on their aesthetics and cameras where they both share the same 5 Megapixel sensors for both their front and back cameras.
We can’t really say much of the difference on these two device except that the C20 is powered by a Unisoc SC9863a and supports 4G connetivity, while the C10 comes with Unisoc SC7331e and only on 3G. From these two chipsets, the one on the C20 is a little powerful that is can do HDR processing compared to the C10.
Apart from that, they have everything of the same including a 1GB of RAM with an option 2GB and storage of either 16GB or 32GB. Both though as expandable of up to 256GB through a microSD card.
They come with a 3,000mAh embedded battery and are charge through the microUSB port. While that sounds a step backwards, just keep in mind though that you have at least a 3.5mm jack and an FM radio to celebrate with.
HMD Global promises timely updates for these new devices with the Nokia X series to have three 3 years of OS upgrades including monthly security updates plus three years warranty. The Nokia G will also get two years of OS upgrades together with its monthly security updates. The Nokia C on the other hand gets quarterly updates for two years.
