GoPro to launch a mobile app that allows editing and sharing of videos this summer
Aside from discussing the company’s upward earnings during GoPro’s 2015 Financial Conference Call, the company also announced the new GoPro app. The new and upcoming app lets users easily share and edit footage on the phone right after they are shot. According to the company’s President Tony Bates, the app is at the final phases of development and testing and should be available by the end of summer in the US and that’s about by the mid of September.
Currently, GoPro users have to go through a lot of work with video editing software on the desktop and this would take awhile before they could have their media content ready for sharing. Recently, GoPro launched their Hero+LCD product which allows on-camera video editing and while this revolutionize how contents from these devices are translated into a more compact and network friendly content, but existing Hero devices are all pegged on the current norms of editing videos.
Many third-party flavors of a software solution on mobile devices are now available for download but still, there is something missing in the context which only the company that provides the hardware could bring into the table. The promising app that GoPro announced could hopefully bring balance and convenience of editing and sharing of videos straight from a compatible mobile device with GoPro’s app installed and this will allow users to share their contents almost instantly whichever way they wanted to. Making a short reel of the highlights about the adventure that users are in will now take minutes instead of hours or even days before they could post them online. It will soon feel just like taking a photo on our smartphones and post them right away on our favorite social network platforms.
GoPro also announced their long-term plan for a Cloud service which allows users to view their video, as GoPro founder Nick Woodman explains, the cloud-based feature could make the company like the service to create a highlight reel for the content owner. GoPro also launched a new Content Licensing Portal which will allow professionals find high-quality GoPro videos for their work and help monetize these contents with simple tools to help professionals find the right contents in an organize manner and simplifies the process of clearing rights.
