Google Launch Android One in the Philippines

February 17 – It’s time to get quality and affordability go hand-in-hand as Google announced its Android One initiative becoming officially available in the Philippines. Together with Google’s Vice President for Product Management Caesar Sengupta, the search giant has introduced the features that will be coming with the Android One smartphones along with local partners that made the program available in the country.

Together with the launch of the program are two new Android One phones for the Philippines, Google ties with two local brands Cherry Mobile and MyPhone to bring Android One smartphones to the local market with the new Cherry Mobile One and MyPhone’s Uno. Both devices will bring Google services to the masses with the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system out of the box.

The two announced Android One devices comes with 4.5-inch screens with 1.3 GHz Quad-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, a micro-SD card slot for memory expansion,  dual-SIM slots, a capable camera modules on the front and back of every device and an FM tuner. These features are what most of the users not only Filipinos are looking for a handset at the very least.

Sengupta said in a press statement that Google “very happy to bring Android One smartphones to the Philippines. Working with great partners like Cherry Mobile and MyPhone, we have designed and brought to market these high quality smartphones at highly affordable prices.” He also added “Our goal is to create a high quality mobile experience and get it into as many hands as possible.”

Along with the Launch, Smart Communications and Sun Cellular will also aid Google by bringing affordable services to its users with free over-the-air (OTA) updates to Android operating system plus a number of apps downloads from Google Play at no extra cost for the first 6 months of activation. Globe telecom will also be working with Android One users to get an easy and better access to the internet.

Initially, all Android One phones is set at $112 or roughly 5,000.00 Php and will bring with it high-quality hardware, pure Google experience and the assurance of getting ahead from any other smartphone devices in terms of constant updates and new features as Google is set to update Android One devices straight from Google servers itself.
