Fuel Prices Set for Massive Hike Next Week as Middle East Tensions Drive Global Oil Costs Higher

Based on early industry estimates, local pump prices are expected to register one of the largest weekly increases this year beginning Tuesday. Diesel prices could rise by as much as 8.00 Pesos per liter, while gasoline may increase by around 7.00 Pesos per liter. Kerosene is likewise projected to go up by as much as 6.00 Pesos per liter.

The significant adjustments are attributed to heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, a region that plays a critical role in global oil production and supply. Concerns over potential supply disruptions have driven crude oil prices upward, prompting oil-importing countries such as the Philippines to prepare for higher fuel costs.

As of this writing, the Department of Energy (DOE) has yet to issue an official statement on whether the anticipated increases should be implemented in full or staggered over several weeks. Given the magnitude of the expected adjustments, many consumers and transport groups are hoping that oil companies will adopt a staggered implementation to lessen the immediate impact on motorists, commuters, and businesses.
