Facebook
Facebook videos have played a major role in user engagement on the platform. Ever since video content became available, Meta has undergone several rebrands of the service we currently know as “Video,” whether you’re using a browser or the mobile app. Video has become such a prominent feature that it’s now one of the platform’s biggest draws.
However, Meta is once again rebranding the service—this time to “Reels” in the coming months. As many users know, Meta Reels typically refer to short-form videos, whereas the current “Video” section includes a variety of formats such as live streams and long-form content. With this update, that distinction will disappear. Whether a video is just a few seconds long or over 30 minutes, it will now fall under the unified “Reels” label on Facebook.

This change may cause confusion for users who are accustomed to the differences between Reels and Videos, especially when compared to Instagram Reels, which are currently limited to 3 minutes in length. Additionally, there are potential privacy concerns. Traditionally, Reels are public by default, while many Facebook videos were shared only with friends or specific audiences.
Meta has stated that users will be prompted to review their privacy settings once the update takes effect, ensuring that videos or clips are shared only with the intended audience.
