Facebook rolls out new UI for desktops

After a year since its got announced at F8 2019, the new Facebook for desktop has finally rolled out to more users. Since October of last year, Facebook had the new user interface enabled for a select of users around the world to collect any feedback about the new interface and how people reacts to the new navigation and visual changes of the social media platform.

And the day has finally come that Facebook enables the new UI for the rest of the world. The roll out is usually by regions, so if you are still seeing the old and familiar Facebook layout on your desktop browser then you’ll just have to wait for a little while until it becomes available to you. You might have yours disabled and to enable it, you can try clicking the down arrow next to the help icon, this should bring a pull down menu and if you see “Switch to new Facebook”, click it.

The new UI is pretty much something to get used to as it paves away the familiar placements of icons and links of old and had it everything rearranged into a more organized manner. If you have had tried Facebook App on Microsoft Windows 10 before, you’ll see a strong similarities between them.

Like most UI changes, Facebook’s new interface is not without a problem especially when you are on a higher resolution display as things will get a bit far from one another and it really is annoying at first. And while it promised to be more speedy experience, in my experience however the performance of the UI is a hit or miss thing. probably because of the aging system I have at home or I dunno, maybe it’s just me.

So the layout is definitely modern and more responsive and has the mobile first approach. Gone is the blue horizontal bar on top and the UI opted for a fluid design which also allows the developers to easily implement the Dark mode feature. You’ll also find that the top bar now carries primary icons for Home, Watch, Marketplace, Groups, and Gaming right at the center.

Facebook has committed to transforming the social network into becoming a more privacy-focused communication platform and pushes focus on groups and events.
