As a pre-Chinese new year’s gift and in time for the Chinese spring festival, Xiaomi with its recently announced Redmi 2 entry-level handset will go on sale with Double the RAM and Storage options sometime this February 13 to 15.

From the start and with the understanding that the Redmi 2 is an entry-level device, it only came with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage space, so for the special release for the festival the special edition of the Redmi 2 will be shipping with double the capacity of the two mentioned components.

However, other features will remain the same as the announced original Redmi 2. It still comes with the same 4.7-inch IPS LCD display with resolutions of 720 x 1280. The handset will be powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 410 chipset with Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 processor along with Adreno 306 GPU. Also there’s a standard 8-Megapixel camera on the back with LED flash to assist in low-light conditions and a 2-Megapixel camera on the front for video calls and selfies. The handset is also compatible with LTE in addition to 3G and 2G connectivity options while Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and USB 2.0 support are there to offer alternative connectivity routes.

Juicing up the handset is the 2200 mAh Li-Po battery and is driven by Android 4.4.4 (KitKat) with Xioami’s proprietary MIUI 6 on top. Some have speculated that this variant of the handset will be called the Enhanced Edition but that would need us to find out more tomorrow. what’s known so far is the price, the handset will be sold at only CNY799 or roughly for about $128.
