As drones improves by the day, DJI has launched the new FPV, a hybrid drone which gives the pilot a first person view with the help of a FPV Goggles.
The new flying drone has the same speed and maneuverability of racing drones with an integrated functionality of typical consumer drones as it comes with high-performance motors that could reach top speeds of up to 140kph with zero to a hundred in just 2 seconds.
It includes three flight modes which includes: Normal, Manual and Sports modes. Normal mode offers all easy to use controls and automatic hovering and obstacle detection with all sensors enabled. Manual mode offers full flight control with all sensors disabled. Sports mode on the other hand gets all the features of the Normal mode with manual controls.
The new FPV drone features an Emergency Brake and Hover which are activated anytime with a press of a button. Like most premium drones in the market, it also has a Return to home feature that allows the drone to go back to its home point when it becomes out of range and can also be done manually. There’s also an ADB-S receiver that warns pilots of any aircraft in the vicinity about the presence of the drone.
The key feature of the new FPV drone is its first person view through the DJI FPV Goggles V2. The goggles has two modes: Standard and Smooth modes with a 1440×810 HD viewing resolution. Standard mode has a low-latency of less than 40ms at 60fps with 142° FoV or 50fps with 150° FoV. Smooth mode has a latency of less than 28ms in 120fps with 142° FoV or 100fps with 150° FoV.
The DJI FPV drone can connect up to eight goggles and can send footage up to 10km and has dual-frequency with auto-switching and has a 50Mbps bitrate and anti-interference technologies.
There’s an integrated 4K/60fps 120Mbps camera mounted on a single-axis gimbal and can record 4x slow-motion in 1080p and 120fps with DJI’s RockSteady digital image stabilization . It can now store footages in H.265 or H.264 formats which uses less storage space.
The new DJI FPV is priced around $1,299 and comes with 1x remote controller 2, 1x FPV Goggles V2, 1x battery. There’s also a DJI FPV Fly More Kit which includes two additional Intelligent Flight Batteries and the dedicated charging hub for $299. An optional Motion Controller is also available for $199 that allows users to control the drone using hand gestures.
