COVID-19’s steady infection rate could pose a threat to the country’s health system

DOH released COVID-19 CASE BULLETIN #61 at 16:00H (4:00PM PST) on May 14, 2020.

On Thursday, the Department of Health announced a total of 11,876 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country with 258 new cases reported as of 4pm. Most of the cases are from the NCR with 188 new cases reported while Region 7 reported about 16 confirmed new cases and the rest are from other regions in the Philippines accounting to 54.

Our death toll also increased by 18 new deaths with a total of 790 confirmed dead due to the virus.

Recoveries continue to rise with 86 new recoveries and a total of 2,337 recoveries recorded.


COVID-19 was declared by World Health Organization (WHO) as a Pandemic on March 03, 2020 which started in Wuhan, China. The disease is caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome – coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV2) with a Flu like symptoms such as Fever, Cough, Colds and in more severe cases Difficulty in Breathing.

There are no vaccines or direct cure for the disease at the moment and the only way to protect ourselves from getting infected is to practise proper and frequent handwashing, avoid touching our face, mouth, nose and eyes. Our health experts as well as the government urged everyone to wear a suitable and effective face mask as much as possible and when outside of our homes.
