BlackBerry maybe one of the best smartphones in the early days of the market but today to brand itself in going the likes of Nokia where the company itself as we’ve known in the past in not entirely in control of everything. The brand name itself today in under licensed on a third-party OEM and one of them is Optiemus Infracom, the company is based in India and is currently in charge of the latest devices that’s branded under the BlackBerry umbrella.

Two devices were actually announced in the market and they seem to be exclusive in India at the moment. And if you’d come to expect something more of high-end devices then it’s unfortunately the opposite but the key elements of what makes a BlackBerry a BlackBerry device is still there and that includes the brands award-winning security features and they are the new BlackBerry Evolve X and the BlackBerry Evolve.

Both devices comes with a large 5.99-inch IPS LCD display in 18:9 aspect ratio and in full-HD+ resolution, 64GB of expandable storage, 16 Megapixel front-facing camera and rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and a USB-C port as standard where all of which are housed in an almost the same dimensions of a metallic body. Where they differ though mostly comes with the following that we’ll be discussing below.

First, let’s get on with the Evolve X, as the name suggest, the “X” moniker implies the sense of aggressiveness over everything else and in the case of both devices, they literally means that way as well. The Evolve X comes with a the higher-end mid-range processor with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660. Along with it is an Adreno 512 Graphics chip and is paired with 6GB of RAM. Common with the two devices are memory expansion capabilities but the Evolve X supports up to 256GB of microSD cards.

As for imaging, the Evolve X has a dual pair of back-facing camera sensors which comprises a 12 Megapixel primary sensor and a 13 Megapixel secondary unit. These cameras are supported by a Dual-tone Dual-LED flash to assist in low-light conditions. Talking about LED flash, the front is also equipped with one to support its front-facing 16 Megapixel sensor.

One of the key features found on the Evolve X is BlackBerry’s own DTEK security platform, something that one want to settle for a BlackBerry device because of the security features that it posses. If one is really concerned about privacy and stuff, BlackBerry got it covered.

Other than those features that we’ve mentioned, the Evolve X also comes with what some would say a hefty battery pack at 4000 mAh and there’s wireless charging capabilities and of course fast charging through its USB-C port. Out of the box, the Evolve X boots Android 8.1 Oreo and should soon get updated to Android P like most of other new smartphone devices that recently launched in the market.

The new BlackBerry Evolve X will cost INR 34,990 in a single color Black and will be an Amazon India exclusive handset. It should be available in the Indian market towards the end of August.

If the Evolve X price tag is just to steep, then plain BlackBerry Evolve should compensate things. While both the Evolve X and the Evolve shares the same 5.99-inch display, what powers them differs, what ticks inside the BlackBerry Evolve is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC and that includes the Adreno 506 GPU. This is supported by 4GB RAM and the same amount of internal storage as the Evolve X but with only up to 128GB of microSD card support.

In terms of imaging, the dual sensor of the BlackBerry Evolve on the back comes with a pair for 13 Megapixel sensors and is supported by a Dual-tone Dual LED flash. On the front, the same could be said between these two handset as they both comes with the same 16 Megapixel sensor and a front-facing LED flash.

The new BlackBerry Evolve also runs on 4000 mAh battery and features fast charging, what’s missing here though is the wireless charging capabilities. Out of the box, it also runs Android 8.1 Oreo which also candidates for upgrade on Android P like everyone else.It also has the same level of security features like all other BlackBerry devices thanks to its DTEK support.

The new BlackBerry Evolve is priced at INR 24,990 and is available solely in Black color. For its market availability, the handset will also be an Amazon India exclusive starting on the middle of September.

While they’re directly and exclusively available on Amazon India during its launch, users can also avail these handset from carriers under contract and in Banks.
