A few months ago, ASUS teased us with information that they’re going to build an affordable smartwatch based on Android Wear to compete against the pioneers of the new Android Wear platform. To join the smartwatch competition, ASUS finally announced that they’ve created the best-looking Android Wear smartwatch to date which will be unveiled in a couple of days from now. The ZenWatch as ASUS calls it, will be the company’s first Android Wear product which will be sold for less than $199 that fulfills its promise to deliver a gadget that is priced lower than the smartwatches from either LG, Samsung or Moto360.

The ZenWatch is said to feature voice control command both in English and Chinese languages in addition to Android Wear’s default voice control features, analyst have speculated that the voice control for the ZenWatch could be customized by ASUS proprietary app that the gadget will include since the Android Wear platform has limited customization for OEM’s. Another unique feature that the ZenWatch will bring is the ability to work independently without the need to pair the device with a smartphone.

Since ASUS is so much excited to present its smartwatch design, we might wonder what the OEM has in store for us. We’ve already been seeing a square smartwatch and the sexy and elegant round variants, ASUS approach in designing the ZenWatch has intrigue the blogosphere which have also anticipated the unveiling. Based on the teaser trailer however, ASUS looks to have settled for the squarish design with round edges and a brushed metal finish but who knows, We would find out in a couple of days. There are also a couple of upcoming smartwatches which features a unique round design, the Moto 360 and the recently announced LG G Watch R which is also expected to be a smash hit in Berlin in a few days.

Though ASUS will unveil the device probably on Wednesday with full demo and presentation at IFA 2014 in Berlin, the ZenWatch won’t be available in retail outlets until October. It will be available in a single variant as of the moment and it will surely hit the US along with other key markets.
