Who would have thought that Apple would do it? The Cupertino giant just set the new iPhone SE official without the usual fanfare event, instead Apple settled for a press release given how our current situation is.

It launched just as rumored and as speculated numerous times, the new iPhone SE is indeed an iPhone 8 refresh under a new series and takes a cue from its predecessor.

Don’t be fooled though as the new iPhone SE might have inherited the iPhone 8’s design but it brought in a new hardware underneath and make itself worthy of an upgrade for the series.

So the iPhone SE has the iPhone 8’s 4.7-inch Retina HD display with True-Tone, Dolby Vision and HDR10 playback support with the large bezels included. Below the display, you have Apple’s familiar capacitive Home button which also doubles as a Touch ID sensor. The device is powered by the latest A13 SoC, the same processor that powers the latest iPhone 11 series of devices.

On Photography, the iPhones are synonymous with superb smartphone photography, there’s no question about that but the new iPhone SE is unlike any modern iPhone devices out there as it uses a single camera on the back.

The device’s main camera is a 12 Megapixel sensor sitting behind a f/1.8 Aperture lens. It features an improved Smart HDR Photography and has what Apple calls it “Monocular Depth Sensing” which basically uses the power of its chipset for machine learning to create depths and detects faces on Portrait mode. It also has Cinematic Video Stabilization and records 4K videos in 60fps with stereo audio.

The front-facing camera on the other hand uses a 7 Megapixel sensor and also supports a sort of Portrait mode as well.

The new iPhone SE comes with 5W charger with it but the device itself supports 18W charging but you’ll need the 18W adapter for that it has fast wireless charging support to.

Another update for the device is support for WiFi-6, LTE-A connectivity (No 5G though) and dual-SIM support (nano SIM + eSIM). It also comes with IP67 certification for water and dust resistance.

The new iPhone SE is definitely and upgrade to the SE lineup and even if you are still on the iPhone 8, the new iPhone SE is still worth the upgrade with a full-touch based device offered by the iPhone X and iPhone 11 is not your thing.

Available in Black, White and POW (Product Red), the new iPhone SE price starts at $399 in the US. In the Philippines, the retail prices for the 64GB variant is set at Php26,490, Php30,490 for the 128GB model and Php35,490 for the 256GB version.
