Apple recalls faulty 5W European USB Power adapter with “overheating” risk, affects 37 countries
On Friday, Apple Europe launched a program to exchange faulty 5W European USB power adapter after they found out that in rare cases, the power adapter in concerned may overheat due to faulty design.
The affected USB power adapters are the ones from iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S that shipped between October 2009 to September 2012 in 37 countries, newer models however is not affected by the recall and need not to worry about it.
As customers safety is Apple’s primary concerns, they have decided to exchange every faulty power adapters from the units listed above free of charge. Apple have advice users to exchange their existing power adapter as soon as possible. The Apple website has given instructions on how to spot a faulty adapter and how to get one free.
As the image above from the Apple website suggests, only adapters with model number A1300 is affected, while model A1400 is the new redesigned adapter that users would be getting when they avail the exchange program. This is currently the best way to determine if users may have the faulty component, if that’s the case then they should promptly set an appointment or visit the nearest Apple Authorized service provider to have the faulty ones replaced.
