And this isn’t simply an iPhone with a folding screen. Apple has redesigned iOS, its cameras, hardware and even the way users interact with the device around the foldable form factor.

A New Kind of iPhone

The biggest attraction of the iPhone Duo is obviously its display. When closed, the device uses a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR outer display. When opened, users get a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR folding display with a nano-texture finish. Both screens feature ProMotion, Always-On display technology and up to 3,000 nits of peak outdoor brightness.

Apple is using a Grade 5 titanium frame and a precision hinge designed to provide a smooth opening and closing motion. The hinge consists of more than 100 components and is engineered to support the center portion of the display when the phone is opened.

The iPhone Duo is also rated IP68 for water, splash and dust resistance, while Ceramic Shield 2 on the outer display offers three times better scratch resistance than the previous generation, according to Apple.
