Last year, Apple introduced the new and revamped iOS7 which gave a new level of experience after being stocked in the same old user interface design for years. Now as Apple further improved its mobile Operating System, the company has added a lot of new features and ultimately level up what we have been using since the release of iOS7. Though it may not look different from iOS7, iOS8 just may the whole device much more easier to use and further unifies itself across Apple’s device range.
Announced early last week, the new iOS 8 brings out new features and has updated key applications that makes the new Operating System edge over its predecessor. below are the list of the things to come when the new iOS8 hit users worldwide.
Interactive Notifications
With iOS8, Apple adds widget support and introduce more ways to do with notifications if the app allows it. Instead of opening the originating app to interact on what’s happening within the app, iOS8 now allows users to take actions on notifications from within the Notification Center. This feature is not limited to iMessage alone, apps such as Facebook will allow users to like or comment on Facebook notifications without opening the app itself, Calendar events can also be interacted within the Notification Center.
Hands-free with Siri
When connected to CarPlay, it’s pretty easy to invoke Siri by saying “Hey Siri” and can even recognize a song being played thanks to Shazam. If there is something that you like, like a song perhaps, you could download that song straight from Siri’s content results.
Improved Mail & Messaging
Apple has overhauled its stock Mail app and adds a Mailbox-style features, you can tag or dismiss email messages without opening them up with just one simple swipe from your inbox. iMessage also has some new features such as Voice and video message within the app and you can also do it straight from the notification center. For sensitive messages, iMessage has added a timed self destruct feature for those sensitive messages that you may have on your iPad or iPhone.
Spotlight
As its Mac counterpart received an upgrade, the iOS version has it as well. Search from apps and other app that might interest you or a song from iTunes, you might have a movies you want to watch or get directions to locations, Spotlight can do that for you at your convenience.
QuickType Keyboard
Android, Windows and Blackberry users are familiar with predictive text input, now Apple brings its own to the table though it might be late from the trend, it’s great to find this feature coming on iOS 8. Aside from that, iOS 8 has Apple open up for third party keyboards which would bring out swipe keyboards on the new iOS 8 soon.
Continuity
Apple has made iOS 8 and OS X interact with each other and when connected, either way you’ll be able to send and receive calls and messages from either platforms. Notifications works the same on both OS X and iOS 8 and working with them are pretty easily.
HealthKit and Health App
HealthKit is a centralized information system to keep track on all your health data from your iDevice. it collects data from supported accessories. It also provide a more convenient way to check the patients health with Mayo Clinic. Health App as always keeps your personal heath and fitness in check.
Family Sharing
Aside from having a corporate sharing scheme, iOS 8 brings out a new way to secure a small group of iDevices with Family Sharing. From apps, calendar events and even media related contents, with Family Sharing, it’s now easier to share those contents within the group. It also provide a more secure way for in-app and iTunes purchases with a secure verification system.
Extensive optimization and DEV support
iOS 8 is a huge step up from the current generation iOS 7 and it has provided a lot of tool that our application developers can then use to create apps and provide intensive visual experiences without compromising performance. Apple has also provided access to its incorporated technologies on devices to developers so they may fully utilize the full capabilities of every iOS 8 equipped devices.
The new iOS 8 is currently under beta testing and is provided only to application developers at the moment. Apple will rollout the new iOS 8 worldwide as a free upgrade on supported devices sometime on September. The iOS 8 supports the following devices : iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S, iPod Touch 5th-gen, iPad 2, iPad 3rd-gen, iPad 4th-gen, iPad Air, iPad mini and iPad mini with retina display.
