Apple iOS 26 Beta Adds New FaceTime Nudity Detection Feature for Enhanced Privacy
this on-device safety tool enhances Apple’s growing suite of privacy-focused features.
Apple’s iOS 26 is now available in developer beta, introducing several new features for iPhone users. While not every addition was highlighted at WWDC 2025, developers are already uncovering hidden enhancements—particularly those aimed at improving user safety and privacy.
One standout discovery currently making waves online is a new FaceTime feature that detects nudity during calls. When triggered, the app automatically pauses the session and displays a warning message:
“Audio and video are paused because you may be showing something sensitive. If you feel uncomfortable, you should end the call.”
This feature is not enabled by default but can be activated manually in FaceTime settings under “Sensitive Content Warning.” It was first discovered by X user @iDeviceHelpus and is believed to be primarily intended for child accounts. However, beta users can enable it manually—making it a helpful tool for preventing the unintentional sharing of explicit content and raising awareness among users.
The feature is described by Apple as follows:
“Detect nude photos and videos before they are viewed on your device, and receive guidance to help make a safe choice. Apple does not have access to the photos or videos.”
According to Apple’s support page for Communication Safety,
“Communication Safety uses on-device machine learning to analyze photo and video attachments and determine if a photo or video appears to contain nudity. Because the photos and videos are analyzed on your child’s device, Apple doesn’t receive an indication that nudity was detected and doesn’t get access to the photos or videos as a result.”
Features like this are a welcome addition in today’s increasingly open and fast-paced online environments, where real-time video communication is common and younger users often go unsupervised. Apple’s proactive approach helps create a safer digital space without compromising user privacy.
