In 2017, Apple first announced their supposedly first wireless charging pad the Apple AirPower which would be use to wirelessly charge the iPhone X, Apple Watch and the Apple AirPods all at once. Time passed and we haven’t heard much about it or have seen it in the wild.
More than a year have passed, Apple have to discontinue the product. The reason which Apple didn’t further clarified only talked about the project not satisfying the Apple standards.
After much effort, we’ve concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have cancelled the project. We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to push the wireless experience forward.
The project was highly anticipated by Apple users for months and even thought that the product would finally launch this month only to be disappointed by the sudden announcement.
While Apple did not made so much effort to explain the reason behind the announcement, Apple blogger John Gruber in september revealed that AirPower is struggling with heating issues as he heard that the wireless device is “way too hot” and that Apple engineers claimed that it wont work.
Apple users with wireless compatible devices and accessories will have to rely on third-party wireless chargers to charge their devices (at least this time) or turn back to the usual and effective method of charging up – by plugging it in.
