The last time that Xiaomi rolled out a stable update for its numerous device lineup, it brought several features and bug fixes with MIUI 8.2 but soon after that, beta testers are looking forward forward with the next incremental version of MIUI 8 which is currently working with version 8.3.
Further into the future, we are expecting a major release from Xiaomi with its upcoming MIUI 9 UI to make its way to a select of Xiaomi devices latest this year. The alleged new UI is said to be based primarily on Android 7.0 Nougat.
Currently, Xiaomi is already baking Nougat-based MIUI 8 to a number of Xiaomi devices and it’s currently being tested by participating beta testers worldwide. The Nougat-based MIUI 9 is also said to include new features such as Nougat’s Split-Screen feature and Picture-In-Picture (PiP) feature that is coming natively with the yet to be released Android O.
Flagship devices will definitely receive MIUI 9 including Mi 6, Mi 5c, Mi Mix, Mi Note 2, Mi 4C, Mi 4S, Mi 5, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus and devices from the Redmi line including the Redmi Note 4X, Redmi Note 4. Besides its smartphone lineup, Xiaomi will also make the MIUI 9 available to its Mi Pad 3 tablet as well.
Rumors suggests that while this features are readily available when MIUI 9 launches, Xiaomi is considering devices that are stock at least with Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) to have these features implemented as well.
Last April, Xiaomi did a poll for users from its official MIUI Forum page about the Split-Screen features and 80% of its respondents are positively wanting the feature to be including in the next major UI update.
