Xiaomi announced the new Mi Notebook Air

Xioami was rumored to bring a new line of devices this quarter and though it was anticipated to do just that, yet everyone was surprised when the company announced the new Mi Notebook Air, a new line of notebook PC’s that’s said to compete with just no other than its biggest rival in China, Apple Inc.

Xiaomi’s entry into the PC market isn’t a coincidence, in fact the PC market on the region is declining quarter after quarter but Xiaomi is determined to give users a device that seamlessly connect everyone with each different platforms of devices. Xiaomi as a tech company isn’t just limited to offer mobile devices like everyone knows about. A few times already, the company already released a number of connected devices including bicycles, rice cookers and even drones, so having a Mi branded notebook PC is just something that is inevitable and finally here it is.

Mi Notebook Air | 12.5″


Thin and light, that’s what makes the new Xiaomi Notebook Air 12.5″ variant desirable. With just 12.9mm thin on a full-metal body, the notebook just weighs 1.07 kg. The device is so light that Xiaomi compares it to a magazine.


Its 12.5-inch screen feature a full-HD display and comes with an Edge-to-edge protective glass. For completely immersive multimedia entertainment, the unit comes with an AKG custom dual speakers with Dolby digital surround sound.

At its core, the Mi Notebook Air 12.5″ is powered by an Intel Core M3 processor with 4GB RAM and a 128GB SATA SSD storage and an expandable SSD slot that is unfortunately only serviceable by authorized Xiaomi service representative. There a 1x USB 3.0 port, 1x HDMI slot, USB Type-C port for recharging with fast charging capabilities on a 37Wh embedded battery pack which will give at least 11.5h of uptime.

Mi Notebook Air | 13.3″


If you need something that packs a punch then the flagship Mi Notebook Air 13.3″ is the answer. This is the flagship variant of the two and does come with a larger display and even more beefier features. With an increase in stamina, it weighs around 1.28 kg with a thickness of just 14.8mm but despite all the necessary increase in footprint, this variant still comes with the same lightweight full metal body with an elegant logoless exterior.

So to justify its weight and size, you’ll get a larger 13.3-inch display with the same display features as the 12.5-inch variant. Even more satisfying is what’s on the inside as it comes with the latest Intel Core-i5 (Skylake-U) Dual core processor at 2.3 GHz which can be overclocked to 2.7 GHz, it also comes with 8GB of RAM with 256GB of internal storage based on SSD a significant boost over its smaller and more compact sibling.To complete its performance prowess, a dedicated graphics chip is included with an NVIDIA GeForce 940MX GPU with 1GB of dedicated video memory to take every processing and graphics intensive and demanding apps.

It comes with the same 40 Wh battery which should be able to handle up to 9.5hours of work time, it’s got 2x USB 3.0 ports, 1x HDMI port, a USB Type-C port for fast charging and 1 SSD expansion slot just in case you want to add more storage to your Mi Notebook in the future,AKG custom dual speakers with Dolby digital surround sound support.

So what do they have in common? Well for one the Mi Notebook runs on the latest Windows 10 Home operating system so you’ll get the full computing experience while on the go. It also takes advantage of many Windows 10 features such as fast startups and great for multitasking features with its ample amount of RAM and faster mobile processor.


The new Mi Notebook Air also features Mi Sync that allows users to sync their notebook through the Mi Cloud storage. If you also have the MiBand 2, it can be used to unlock the Mi Notebook Air when it gets near the device, a convenient feature that allow you to secure your device when you’re away and have it ready when you are ready to get back to work.

Premium as it is, the Mi Notebook Air is packed in full Metal Body with colors of either gold or silver, there’s no logo on the outside so you’ll get the cleanest minimalistic design that can also be customized with stickers. It’s large display features a 1080p Full-HD resolution so you’ll have a large area to work with and is full laminated to reduce glare and reduce eye strain. Compared with a typical Notebook displays, the Mi Notebook Air features and edge-to-edge display with 5.59mm ultra-thin bezels.

Despite the seemingly crammed surface, Xiaomi still managed to include a 1 Megapixel camera on top of the display so you could enjoy having you video chat and conference call with your family, friends and colleagues. Its full-sized Notebook keyboard comes with a backlit illumination on each key so you could work in the dark without hindering your productivity.AUSB Type-C charger is included in the package which can juice up the Mi Notebook Air from zero to fifty percent in just 30 minutes.


The Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air will be launched in China on August 2nd with the 12.5-inch variant to cost RMB3,499 or just around$520, the 13.3-inch flagship model will set you back at RMB 4,999 or roughly about $750. Despite the interest of international customers, Xiaomi still haven’t announced any possible international release but there might be some developments in the coming weeks so check back to us to get updated.
