Google seem to recently hit the spot for bringing its Androidone initiative not just to entry-level devices but also to the best known company’s such as HTC and Motorola with Xiaomi leading the pack. As we all known, Google reintroduced Androidone in India with partner Xiaomi for the Xiaomi Mi A1 and from there, various attempts to port the Androidone software from this device to other devices such as the recently successful port for the Xiaomi Mi 5x which basically has the same hardware and design as the Mi A1.
Now, developers at XDA wants to try something more by porting the said software to a little more complicated device, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X and yes, they manage to boot Androidone operating system into these machines but not without a problem along the way.
Porting the Mi A1 software to the Mi 5x is basically easily and almost straightforward knowing that both devices are as we’ve already mentioned, has a point to point similarities in features. With the Redmi Note 4’s, it’s literally different though they have shared a few similarities but that’s about it and developers are working hard to make the transition and porting of the OS somewhat easier and more functional that its current state.
While the Redmi Note 4 and the Redmi Note 4X can boot the OS, some features such as the Infrared and the fingerprint sensor are currently not functional and there are other minor bugs as well which are continually been worked so the OS becomes more stable and features such as these will be made available in the future. Another unstable hardware in this build is the camera which what we used to love with smartphone devices.
These circumstances are pretty much the same with other ROM being ported from one device to another which eventually get fixed as development progresses. For now, if you want to try out Androidone with your Redmi Note 4 or the Redmi Note 4x if you have one then go ahead just be sure that this isn’t your daily driver as it comes with more headaches than convenience at this point.
