Good news for Smart Communications subscribers, the local wireless telecommunications company launches the first of its kind service for its subscribers. Now, network subscribers can purchase movies, books, apps, games and every content on Apple iTunes or App Store through the users balance credit on their mobile phones or charge on top of the user’s monthly bill. Smart calls it Pay-With-Mobile service and is one of its kind pioneered by Smart Communications here in the Philippines.

To avail the service, users need to register their mobile by following the procedure below:

  1. Text REG to 4949 (Smart will then send a unique Pay-With-Mobile number and account details).
  2. Open iTunes/App Store app and go to Apple ID Account Settings.
  3. On Payment Option : Select “Master Card”.
  4. Then enter all required details in their respective fields.

After the procedure is complete, the card number supplied by Smart Pay-With-Mobile service will now be associated with the user’s account and will then be possible to purchase items from the iTunes store or App Store directly from the user existing mobile account.

The service is openly available to all Prepaid and Postpaid subscribers and when the user makes a purchase, the network will automatically send an SMS notification with all the information about the recent purchase. Smart however revealed that with each purchase, the carrier will charge a 15% premium fee on top of the standard iTunes and App Store rates including VAT and current dollar exchange rates.

The service will be rolling out starting on February 16, 2015 with full availability expected a couple of days later. Additionally, Sun Cellular will also have the service available to its subscribers soon as Smart prepares its wide availability of the service into the sub-companies under its wing.
